Ed Dixon Food Design

Ed Dixon Food Design (EDFD) was founded by Edwina (Ed) Thomson in 2001. As Founder, CEO and Creative Director, Ed established, built and led the business over the following two decades, growing it into an award-winning boutique catering and event management company.

Her role encompassed all aspects of the business, from creative direction, event design and production through to business strategy, operations, client relationships and team development.

Specialising in a design-led approach to food and events, EDFD delivered weddings, corporate and private events for 20 to 2,000 guests, managing everything from production design, styling and lighting to entertainment, food and beverage.

Over the years, EDFD developed enduring relationships with some of Victoria’s leading cultural organisations, including fortyfivedownstairs, the Victorian College of the Arts, ACCA, Melbourne Recital Centre and Heide Museum of Modern Art, alongside a broad range of corporate clients, institutions and private families for whom the company created events over many years and, in some cases, across generations.

EDFD was a member of Restaurant & Catering Australia from 2005 and received numerous Awards for Excellence. These included National Boutique Caterer of the Year in 2018; Victorian Boutique Caterer of the Year in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2018; Victorian Corporate Caterer of the Year in 2006; and multiple finalist and commendation awards for wedding catering, boutique catering and hospitality.

While these awards and partnerships were significant, Ed's greatest pride remains the extraordinary team she built and the thousands of events they helped bring to life.

Ed now undertakes individual creative projects, drawing on more than two decades of experience and the extensive network of designers, artists, producers and creative collaborators she has worked with throughout her career. Her approach remains collaborative and design-led, bringing together people, ideas and expertise to create thoughtful and distinctive experiences.
